Mature Music That Speaks to Your Soul
In spite of obviously sharp vision, Dr.
Mark Abrahams wears his wire-rim-glassed view of the world squarely
on his sleeve. Perhaps it was this trait that moved him to discard
his career as physician in order to become a musician (a move which
undoubtedly made his parents very proud).
Dr. Abrahams is a mature thinker who has
something substantial to say. He’s been around the block, gone far,
and taken numerous detours (some scenic, some not). Consequently, in
response to the quintessential rock & roll query, "Are You
Experienced?"—the answer is decidedly, "affirmative."
Intelligently articulated—His
songs are delivered by a haunting, rough-hewn voice
that is soulful, committed, and clearly born of experience.
The content of Dr. Abrahams’ work is drawn from the universal themes
and archetypes that appeal, on the most basic psychic levels, to us
all: sin & imprisonment, freedom & redemption, and other universal
truths from the bedrock of the human condition. For example, one of
his clever tricks is to adapt some of his favorite motion picture
stories into song. One flew over the Cuckoo’s Nest is
re-imagined in "St. John Sings." The story of The Shawshank
Redemption is thinly veiled in "¾ moon."
Lastly, as a performer—Dr. Abrahams pays
great attention to ensuring that the live music gathering is an
interactive event. For those of us who cut our musical teeth on the
era defining music of the 60’s, the resulting sense of having had a
shared musical experience is a precious added bonus.
One thing is for sure: as patients, we may
have lost a healer… but as listeners and concert-goers, we have
gained healing gifts of a different sort. I urge you to seek out and
experience the music of Mark Abrahams.
In addition to solo performances, Dr. Abrahams appears with his
cohorts in crime, "The Band Born of Experience."
